Former Singaporean Foreign Minister Meets with Former PM Hun Sen

PHNOM PENH: Former Singaporean Foreign Minister George Yeo paid a visit to former Prime Minister Hun Sen on the morning of December 7, where he praised the progress of the Kingdom based on Phnom Penh’s high-rise buildings.

Mr. Yeo said he was pleased to meet the former PM in person and noted that his last visit to Cambodia was in 1999, when he accompanied Senior Minister Cham Prasidh to Siem Reap. He said that now Phnom Penh is well-organized despite the increase in traffic. He noted the many new high-rise buildings in the city, and said that the people are living happily under peaceful development.

During the meeting, Hun Sen mentioned Cambodia’s needs to maintain food and energy security.

"Regarding food security, we have become a country that produces food for self-sufficiency that has some food left for export," he said. "In terms of energy security, even though we are not an oil-producing country, we are still in control. So far, we have used about 62% of renewable energy and we have stopped producing energy from coal."

The former Singaporean Foreign Minister also paid a courtesy call to Prime Minister Hun Manet today at the Peace Palace.
